No Primary Education Completion examination this year

Primary Education Completion (PEC) and its equivalent examinations have been canceled this year considering the coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed the proposal submitted by the Primary and Mass Education Ministry on Tuesday.

A top official of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education confirmed it to the Daily Sun.

 

Earlier on August 19, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education sent a proposal to the Prime Minister to scrap Primary Education Completion (PEC) examinations this year due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

It was mentioned in the proposal that although 131 working days have been fixed till November 17 this year, classes held in only 30 to 35 days till now as the regular teaching activities of primary schools have been closed since March 18 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the academic activities are going on through broadcasting recorded lesson by Sangsad Television. But it was not possible to bring all the students under this programme due to the lack of television and cable connection.

It also mentioned in the summary that about 56 percent of students are involved in television education activities or have the opportunity to participate.

The academic activities have also been launched through radio from August 12 as 97.6 percent students are able to take advantage of the radio classes. Besides, teachers are communicating with about 76 percent students of government primary schools through mobile phones, it said.
